The main difference between 4G and 5G base stations

A base station site includes base station equipment and supporting equipment. The base station equipment includes baseband units, radio frequency units and antennas. Supporting equipment includes transmission equipment, power supplies, backup batteries, air conditioners, monitoring systems and iron towers (holding poles).The base station equipment is responsible for connecting the mobile phone through radio waves and connecting to the core network and the Internet through the transmission equipment, while the power supply, backup battery, air conditioning and monitoring system are responsible for ensuring the stable operation of the base station equipment.
5G sites are same as 4G sites.They cannot lack supporting equipment. Usually 4G and 5G base stations are co-sited.5G equipment is superimposed on the original 4G site. As the power consumption and transmission capacity of the base station equipment increase after 5G equipment is superimposed, the supporting equipment of the site needs to be upgraded and expanded accordingly.
The 5G base station equipment divides the BBU into CU (Central Unit) and DU (Distributed Unit) and is connected to AAU (Active Antenna Unit) through optical fiber. AAU includes RRU and antenna functions, the active radio frequency part and the passive antenna are integrated.
